2017 NFL Mock Draft

It’s been nearly three full months since the last snap at Super LI, which took place on Sunday, February 5th at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Super Bowl LI was no doubt, one of the best Super Bowls ever to be played, an instant classic. The winners, the New England Patriots, a team that managed to secure its fifth Championship. The Patriots undoubtedly staked their claim as a dynasty in the game of football. This title helped affirm that QB Tom Brady is the best quarterback to ever take the field in the NFL. It also help re-affirm what we already know, and that is that Bill Belichick is arguably the greatest football mind to grace the sidelines of an NFL field. What made the Super Bowl so great was that we saw the unexpected. The Atlanta Falcons had taken everyone by surprise and were able to jump out to an early lead and then continue to open up that gap until halftime. Everyone thought the Patriots were done. Articles about Tom Brady’s retirement looming, were already being written. And then, the Falcons crumbled like no team in their position had crumbled before.  They began to make ghastly mistakes, which gave the mighty Patriots several opportunities to get back into the game, and that they did. Mid-way through the third quarter, the Patriots found themselves trailing by a score of 28-3. However, like clockwork, QB Tom Brady stepped up to the plate and engineered some terrific scoring drives, which took little to no time at all. The next thing we know, it’s tied at 28 and the game is going to overtime. The rest is history from there. The Patriots went on to score a touchdown in their opening drive, icing the game and sealing their comeback victory. What. A. Game!

Back to the draft…for NFL fans. The offseason is long and often tough to endure, so when the NFL Draft approaches in late April, fans can begin to get excited about the next NFL season. The draft marks the mid-way point of the offseason. Fans know that in just a couple more short months, franchises will get together with their new lineups and begin their organized team activities (OTAs) in preparation for their pre-season games.

There will always be some drama in the weeks leading up to the draft. Last year especially when the whole Laremy Tunsil incident occurred on live TV during the draft. The Combine and school Pro Days have come to an end. Team officials, coaches and scouts have been evaluating and reviewing every detail surrounding the future stars of the league.  This time of year is highly stressful for NFL franchise officials, as they want to ensure that the selections they make will truly benefit their organization. The talent pool in this year’s draft is very deep. The crop features a lot of talented defensive players from defensive backs to linemen/linebackers. There is a fair share of talented wide receivers and tight ends. It isn’t as deep a draft for quarterback talent as we may have seen a few years back. It’s officially Mock Draft season and many of the most iconic football sports writers and pundits have been publishing various versions of their own mock drafts since before the final whistle of last year’s season. However, when it comes down to draft day, all mock drafts are vulnerable and can be completely incorrect. Trades occur in the hours leading up to the draft and it can throw everything off. But that’s the best part of the draft; the uncertainty and unscripted drama that comes with it.

With that being said, here is my version of a 2017 Mock Draft of the first round.
